Helping immigrants through art

Empowered Women International is a unique concept among the many shops of Old Town.

Marga Fripp, the founding president, is determined to create better lives for
the immigrant women in Alexandria. Inspired by her own immigration experience,
she is originally from Romania; Fripp has made it her mission to find a way for
immigrant artists to begin to build a new life in a new country.

Empowered Women International is the brainchild of Marga Fripp, who has helped hundreds of immigrant artists.

When Marga Fripp sees a problem, she does something about it. As an outspoken broadcast journalist
and activist, she was barred from working in her native Romania. Arriving here in 2001, she was not able
to find a job in spite of her education and experience.

Assisting them is Empowered Women International, an organization based in Virginia that
helps immigrants develop their artistic skills while teaching them the business side of art.
The organization is the brainchild of Marga Fripp, a broadcast journalist who was barred
from working in Romania, her home country.
